The Origins of the Show World App
For more than 20 years, Show World existed as a book that contained the contact details of people in the Indian film industry. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when traditional sales of the book were disrupted, the company decided to digitize their directory. This led to the creation of the Show World app, which was developed by Ali Solanki, a college student at the time.
Developing the App: From Idea to Execution
I took on the challenge of building the app with no prior experience in mobile development. He chose Flutter, a cross-platform framework that allows developers to write a single codebase that works for both iOS and Android. I learned Figma for UI/UX design and used Flutter to create a fully functioning app.
One of the major challenges he faced was convincing the company to trust him with such a significant project. To overcome this, Ali offered to develop the app for free, with the option for the company to purchase it later. This strategy worked, and he successfully built the app, which included a vast database of Bollywood contacts.

My journey wasn’t just about coding the app. He had to learn digital marketing to promote it, build the UI/UX from scratch using Figma, and handle the app’s backend operations. The success of the app impressed the company so much that they entrusted me with more digital operations, helping him expand his skill set and professional network.
